The oldest of 11 children, John was born in Detroit, son of Mathew and Anna (Utovich) Shevrovich. John graduated from Eastern Michigan University, where he was a scholar athlete. He attended the University of Michigan Law School but found his true vocation education which became his lifelong career. He completed his post-graduate studies at the University of Michigan. Subsequently, he was designated a master teacher of mathematics, and also taught history and earth science. He was a school administrator for much of his career, serving as superintendent of schools at East Jackson, Mich., and superintendent of schools at Lake George Central School, Lake George, from 1965 to 1985, from where he retired. A veteran of World War II, John served in the U.S. Navy. When John came to Lake George, he developed an innovative school district, which included building a new elementary school that later earned national recognition as a model school. During his tenure, the junior-senior high school achieved national accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. John was very active in his community, serving as president of the Lake George Rotary Club. He was a leader among school administrators, serving as president of the Capital Area School Development Association, a school administrators' association. A member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Lake George, he was an Eucharistic minister, a member of the Parish Council and the building committee. In a life full of honor and accomplishment, John's greatest achievement was his 68-year marriage to his beloved wife, Mary Catherine (Bell); his seven daughters and their families.
