Kuhn, Joseph F. EAST GREENBUSH Joseph F. Kuhn, died March 15, 2013 at the age of 99 years at Evergreen Commons, East Greenbush, after a brief illness. Joe was born in Troy, N.Y. on July 5, 1913 to the late Joseph F. Kuhn and Mary Selig Kuhn. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Augustine's Church, Lansingburgh, until 2003, when he moved with his wife to Millview of Latham Assisted Living. Joe graduated as valedictorian from St. Augustine's Elementary School in 1928. He attended Catholic Central High School and graduated from Lansingburgh High School, class of 1932. After graduating, Joe was employed by the Monarch Brush Company, Lansingburgh, where he was a member of Brush Workers' Union Number 20468, A. F. of L. He was subsequently employed by W. & L. E. Gurley, Troy, prior to and after his service in World War II. Joe earned the rank of first lieutenant, US Army Air Corps, serving October 1942 through July 1947, 25 months of which he served in Gushkara, India, in the 24th Combat Mapping Squadron in the India-Burma Campaign. He was awarded the Bronze Star in May 1945 for this service. Upon his return from the War, Joe was re-employed by W. & L. E. Gurley in the custom dividing department, until his retirement in 1983. Joe married Helen Marie Day on May 13, 1951 at St. Augustine's Church. She predeceased him on February 20, 2010. Joe is survived by his two daughters, Kathy (late Jim) Hartley, of Brunswick, and Carol Kuhn (Mark Kelly), of Leavenworth, Kan. He is also survived by two sisters, Betty (late Elwin) Miller, and Rita (late John) Lawrence, both of Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, J. Edward "Bud" (late Dorothy Page) Kuhn. Relatives and friends may call at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Ave., Troy, on Tuesday, March 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 20, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church, Fourth Avenue and 115th Street, Troy. Joe's family wishes to express their special thanks to the staff at Millview of Latham for many years of care, as well as recent care by Evergreen Commons, East Greenbush.
