Surrey, Maryn Beth (Wheeler) AMSTERDAM Maryn Beth (Wheeler) Surrey, 47, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, February 3, 2014 at the Hospice Inn of St. Peter's Hospital. Her loving family was at her side. Born on June 29, 1966 in Peekskill, she lived her childhood in Lake Peekskill, Bangor, Maine, Rensselaer and Amsterdam. She graduated high school and from Doane Stuart School in Albany. Maryn studied art at Arizona State University in Flagstaff and New York Institute of Technology in Islip. She graduated from the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and was an executive pastry chef at restaurants in Pasadena, Calif. and Hollywood, Calif. Maryn had a wonderful warm, kind and loving spirit. She added joy to our lives and used her creative flair to create fantastic culinary treats. Maryn made us laugh with her famously quirky sense of humor. She has been extraordinary in her ability to maintain a positive and hopeful attitude in confronting pancreatic cancer for more than two years. She leaves behind her three loving children, Ellen, Alexander and Elliot of La Crescenta, Calif; her parents, the Rev. Dan and Marilyn Wheeler of Scotia; brother Dan Jr.; sister-in-law Michele and nephews, Jonathan, Andrew and Jacob of Guilderland; her sister Jen; brother-in-law Mark and nephews, Noah and Carter; niece Jes and nephew Jake of Amsterdam, and her loving aunts, uncles and cousins. A private family funeral will take place at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam with burial in Fairview Cemetery. The family thanks the doctors, nurses and staff of NYOH of Albany, St. Peter's Hospital and the Community Hospice for their exceptional care and the numerous family and friends that have prayed for and supported Maryn and her family through her journey.
