Lasek, Michael J. STILLWATER Michael J. Lasek, 74, of Riverwood Apts., died suddenly at home, Sunday, July 14, 2013 after being stricken. Born in Troy, October 20, 1938, son of the late Michael and Florence Lasek, Mike was a 1957 graduate of Catholic Central High School, where he excelled in football. A cook for most of his life, Mike and his late wife ran Carol's Diner in Stillwater for years, and previously had worked at the 1776 Diner in Schuylerville and Rivers Edge of Stillwater. A past exalted ruler for the Mechanicville-Stillwater Elks Lodge 1403, Mike enjoyed his time at the local Elks Lodge, where he had also been a former trustee. After his wife's death, Mike spent much of his time at the Lodge, helping out in club activities and attended most social functions. A high average bowler, he had a number of 300 games and 800 triples. For a big man, Mike had a smooth delivery, and was very competitive. His wife, Carol Wells Lasek died in 2005. Survivors include two daughter and their husbands: Karen and Mark Minick of Stillwater and Janet and David Such of Watervliet; four grand and two great-grandchildren, along with his bother, John "Jackie" Lasek of Florida, and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 2 at 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 302 Park Ave., Mechanicville. A gathering of friends will be held at 6 p.m. at Elks Lodge, prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Elks Lodge or the Stillwater Rescue Squad, in memory of Mike Lasek. devito-salvadorefh.com to leave condolences and for directions.
