Riley, Michael P. Sr. EAST GREENBUSH After a lengthy illness, Michael P. Riley Sr., 75, passed away on February 17, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson. Born on May 3, 1938 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Francis X. Riley and Margaret Lane Riley. He grew up in Albany, graduating from Christian Brothers Academy and Siena College. After serving his country in the United States Air Force, he dedicated his professional life to journalism and public relations, working initially as a reporter and writer for the Long Island Catholic newspaper, and then for many years as a communications officer for the State University of New York (SUNY) Central Administration and SUNY Research Foundation. Following his retirement, he worked at Christian Brothers Academy. He was a devoted communicant of the Church of St. Mary, serving on the Parish Council, the Liturgy Committee, and as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and catechist for RCIA. Above all else, his family was most important and he is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, M. Rosalie (Leonard) Riley; his children, Michael (Allison Doney) Riley, Erin (John Garesche) Riley, Deirdre (David) Thomson; and his grandchildren, Briana Douglas, Cameron Riley, Riley Thomson, Devon Thomson; and stepgrandchild, Sylvan Garesche. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Riley; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Kathleen Riley, John Leonard, Jo Ellen Leonard, John Rivett, and Nicholas Normile; many nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by his brothers, Francis X. Riley Jr. and Peter B. Riley and brother and sisters-in-law, Robert J. Leonard, Kathryn Leonard, and Demetra Riley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 163 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer.
