Miesing, Nina ALBANY Nina Miesing passed away on January 27, 2014 in Albany. Born as Nina Hammel in Krakow, Poland in 1918, she led a carefree life until World War II, during which she was sent to various concentration camps, including Auschwitz. She managed to survive with her sister, Carol (Jacobowitz), until liberated by the Soviets from Terezin outside Prague. Unfortunately, both of her parents perished while at Treblinka II Extermination Camp, and her brother was never heard from again. She married fellow Holocaust survivor Irving Miesing (deceased 2005) in Germany, had a son, and emigrated with her new family to the U.S. where she spent the next 20 years helping her husband, Irving, run their small business in New Jersey. She spent the next 30 years happily retired in Delray Beach, Fla. and watching her two grandchildren grow up. When her husband died after nearly 60 years of marriage, she moved to Albany, where she spent the last nine years. She is survived by her only son, Paul of Albany and daughter-in-law, Janice of Clifton Park; her grandchildren, Debra (Brendan Reg-an) and Marc (Fumi Suga- ya); and her great- grandchildren, Abigail and Kaitlyn Regan and Kai Miesing. In lieu of gifts or flowers, please make donations to the Daughters of Sarah Senior Community.
