Wilson, Oliver E. GREEN ISLAND Oliver E. Wilson, 82, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. Born in Plattsburg, son of the late Oliver and Eva Martin Wilson, he spent most of his adult life in North Albany. While serving as a clerk for the Times Union, he joined the Army and served his country with pride during the Korean War, earning the rank of sergeant and was awarded several medals, including three bronze stars. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 1610 in North Albany, where he served in many positions from bartender to commander. As a member of their Color Guard, he helped them win several state championships. After his time in Korea, he owned his own garage, then worked for the United Traction Company as a bus driver and finally settled in at Leroy Holding Company in Albany where he worked for many years as a foreman, retiring twice from his job there. In his spare time, he loved bowling, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, tinkering with his cars and he never passed up the opportunity to play poker with his son and nephews. He also enjoyed his beloved boxers, Sissy and Puddles. He is survived by his adoring wife, Shirley Finkle Wilson; his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Earl and JoAnn Wilson; his five grandchildren, Dawn Bull, Jennifer Baker, Randy, Nicholas and Jeremy Wilson; nine great-grandchildren and many friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, William "Tex" Wilson and Richard "Doc" Wilson. Funeral services will be held at the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Ave., Green Island on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Saratoga National Cemetery.
