Mattoon, Ralph V. ALBANY Ralph V. Mattoon, 100, of Forrest Drive, Albany, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Ralph was born in Chicopee, Mass., the son of the late Ralph and Effie Downey Mattoon. He was a resident of Colonie most of his life. Ralph graduated from Little Falls High School and attended two years at Purdue University. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army. Ralph retired from GE after 34 years as a draftsman engineer, holding several drafting positions in generator and turbine, supervisor of hydrogen equipment and supervisor of the fabrication drafting group. Ralph was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed skiing, fishing and camping. He was an expert woodworker, having built most of his own furniture including a Grandmother's clock. After his retirement, Ralph volunteered at the Lisha's Kill Senior Center, where he taught woodworking. He was an honorary lifetime member at the Lisha's Kill Senior Center. Ralph also enjoyed reading and walking even late into his 90's. He is survived by his son, Douglas Mattoon and Joann Sparks of Preston Hollow, N.Y.; by his grandson, Jacob Mattoon along with six other grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ralph was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Elizabeth (Diegel) Mattoon and by his daughter-in-law, Prudence J. Mattoon. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie with military honors.
