Bennett, Richard R. LATHAM Richard R. Bennett, 74, died peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2014 at his home in Latham. Born in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Roland and Dorothy Brown Bennett. He moved to Watervliet with his family where he resided for many years before moving to Latham 32 years ago. He was a U.S. Army combat veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers. He was employed by the Albany Amusement Company in Watervliet as a video game technician for more than 15 years. He was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Latham for more than 20 years. He enjoyed woodworking and collecting coins and lighters. He was the husband of the late Patricia E. Collins Bennett, who died in 2010; beloved father of Wayne (Kathy) Bennett of Burlington Flats, Lisa (Michael) Tallman of Latham, Robert (Kelly) Bennett of Watervliet, Bryant (Scott) Bennett of Rensselaer and the late Richard Bennett Jr.; proud grandfather of Jessica (Josh) Corey, Karissa Tallman, Thomas, Austen, Timothy and Adam Bennett and Cassandra Setford; great-grandfather of Derek and Tyler Corey; brother of Carol Lemons, Kay Childs, Sandy George and Joan Stiles. He was predeceased by his siblings, Eugene, Roland, Ronald, Lee and Gary Bennett, Esther Russell, Ella Alund, Diane Dugan and Helen Storms. He was the best friend of the Rev. Gordon Rakow and is also survived by his cherished companion, Star, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at 10 a.m., at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with the Rev. Gordon Rakow officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Resurrection Lutheran Church, 645 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110.
