Haggerty, Robert J. Sr LARGO, Fla. Robert J. Haggerty Sr., 80, formerly of Castleton, died peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, March 14, 2013. Bob was born on May 22, 1932 to the late Edward and Sylvia (Marie) Haggerty in Albany. He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Robert (Nancy) Haggerty Jr., William (Diane) Haggerty, Daniel (Deborah) Haggerty, Diane (Thomas) Acosta, Eileen (Robert Mielewski) Becker, Ellen (Richard, predeceased) Mazur, Patrick (Joanne) Haggerty, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his sisters, Joan (Jim) Girvin, Margaret Zink, Charlotte Bartalomeo, Nancy (Edward) Duncan, Barbara Lynch, and his brother, John (Bonnie) Haggerty. Bob was a proud Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy, and was honorably discharged in 1956. He then enjoyed a long and rewarding career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1988. Bob and Joan settled in Largo, where he relished the sunshine and retirement. Bob, and his endearing Irish sense of humor will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Interment services will be held at a future date.
