Farley, Roger Dean SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. Roger Dean Farley, 79, of South Burlington passed away surrounded by family on January 31, 2013 at Fletcher Allen Health Care after a brief illness. Roger was born January 4, 1934 in Albany. He was a 1951 graduate of Columbia High School and was a lifetime member of the Rensselaer County Elks Club. He worked for Honeywell Inc. as a system specialist until his retirement. He then worked for a time at Radio Shack in Burlington before pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a writer. He wrote a monthly column called "A Backward Glance" for Vermont Maturity Magazine, and for many years was a regular contributor to the South Burlington "Other Paper." He was a member of the South Burlington development review board until his illness. He was an active member and past president of the Burlington Amateur Radio Club. His call letters were WA1OZE (The Wizard). He was a lifetime diehard Red Sox fan, an avid reader and a music lover (especially, Dixieland jazz and big band music). He loved computers and electronics and used them each and every day of his life. Roger is survived by his wife, Linda (Rivers); his brother, Douglas and wife Beverly of East Schodack; sister-in-law, Gail Farley of Nassau and his sister, Eileen Jensen of Florida. His four daughters and their husbands, Laura (Bob) Greene of New Hampshire, Linda (Edward) Devino of Vermont, Lisa (Douglas) Fischer and Lee Ann (Jonathan) Brignull of Niverville. Three sons and their wives, Steven (Donna) of Vermont, Robert (Krista) of Niverville and William of Nassau. Three stepdaughters and their husbands, Kelly (David) DeGrechie, Brenda (Randy) Carpenter and Tracy Campbell, all of Vermont. Also by 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael and granddaughter, Adrienne Devino. Calling hours will be Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 6 at 1 p.m. Both will be held at Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, 71 South Union St., Burlington, Vt. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
