Crogan, Walter D. WATERVLIET Walter D. Crogan, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2014 at his daughter's home in Delta, Ohio. He was the husband of the late Lillian Burnell Crogan. Born in Troy on October 8, 1923, he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Ruby Fonda Crogan. A lifelong resident of Watervliet, he was a graduate of Watervliet High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe where he received a Purple Heart. He was employed at the former Bendix Corporation (later Allied Signal Corp.) in Green Island for 40 years where he was the tool crib attendant, retiring in 1988. Walter was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Watervliet since birth. He was a former trustee and elder of the church. He recently received the honor of being installed as an Elder Emeritus, a person who has dedicated their life to serving the Lord. Walter was an avid reader and very much a train enthusiast, from watching, reading about trains and collecting train memorabilia. He also had a great love for York Beach, Maine which he passed along to his children and grandchildren. Walter is survived by his children, Shelli Crogan of Voorheesville, Cathy (Ray) Vaillancourt of Delta, Bonnie (Mike) Sicko and Terri (Dale) Skawinski, both of Watervliet, Randy (Ruth) Brand of Cohoes, Jerry (Robin) Brand of Lansingburgh, Vicki (Bruce) Kelso of Petersburgh and Danny (Donna) Brand of Latham and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who considered him a second dad along with church family. Walter's ashes will be brought home on the train with his daughter Cathy and son-in-law Ray for a memorial service to be held in the spring at the First Presbyterian Church in Watervliet. His ashes will be interred at Memory Gardens in Colonie. Contributions in Walter's memory can be made to the Memorial Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 819 23rd Street, Watervliet, NY 12189.
