O'Brien, William E. Sr. ALBANY William E. O'Brien Sr., 90, of Albany died on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. Peter's Hospital after a short illness. Born in Albany, William was a lifelong resident. Mr. O'Brien retired from the Albany Police Department in 1986 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Bucci McTague Post 1530 and a World War II Army veteran serving in the European Theater, participating in the D-Day invasion in Normandy, and a recipient of the Bronze Star. Husband of the late Alice Smith O'Brien. Father of William O'Brien Jr. and his wife Karen of Rotterdam, Kathleen Barrett and her husband Richard of Loudonville and Joan Sandwick and her husband William of Colonie. Brother of Daniel O'Brien and the late Margaret, John and Eugene O'Brien. Also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. O'Brien was also predeceased by his longtime companion, Ann Fields. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Magin & Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave., on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Interment, Graceland Cemetery. Mr. O'Brien's family would like to give a special thank you to the St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the gentle and attentive care shown to their father.
