Cook, William P. RENSSELAER William P. "Moon" Cook, age 90 years, of Rensselaer passed away on December 2, 2013 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born in Albany and lived his entire life in Rensselaer. Mr Cook was employed by the NY Central Railroad and Amtrak as a fireman and engineer, working for the railroad for 43 years. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Bill was a member of the Gerald O'Neil American Legion Post 1683 in Rensselaer and the E. F. Hart Hose Fire Company in Rensselaer. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church in Rensselaer and was an avid Notre Dame Football and Boston Red Sox Fan. Son of the late Edward J. and Cathleen Noonan Cook; brother of Edward (Mary) Cook, Cornelius Cook, James V. (Barbara) Cook and the late Kathleen Schermerhorn and Joseph P. Cook; brother-in-law of Alfred Schermerhorn and Joan Ann Barney; uncle of Deborah Knight, Candace Schermerhorn, Alyce Schermerhorn, John Cook, Patricia Cook, Kathleen Cook, Linda Goodwin, Eileen Jacobs, Michael Cook, Christine Ryan, Nancy Ryan, William Cook, Carol Lynn Genovese, Joseph Cook, Jr. and his special caregivers, Judith Conlen, Laurie Gosh and Edward Cook; also survived by many grandnieces, grand-nephews and cousins. Funeral from the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer Friday morning at 9 and 10 at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, Herrick Street, Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
