Charles Lewis Obituary
LEWIS Beloved husband, father and Jidu, Charles Lewis of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2014. Charles was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 10, 1917 and was one of six children born to his parents Sadie (Joseph) and Tony Matonis Lewis. While in Detroit, Charles attended the Henry Ford Apprentice School for Electrical Engineering until choosing to defend his country as a Naval Seabees in World War II. Following the war, Charles returned to Detroit where he owned and operated electrical contracting businesses, C&L Electric and Charles Lewis Electric Corporation, from 1946-1974. He was a member of IBEW Local 58 and also a member of the Detroit Masonic Lodge. Charles married the love of his life, Marilyn, in Detroit and had four daughters. He decided to move his family to Jacksonville, Florida in 1974 to pursue warmer weather and a change in his pursuits. Charles, having an entrepreneurial spirit, purchased Trout River Mobile Home Park which he operated until his retirement in 1998. Charles lived life passionately with a strong work ethic and lively sense of humor. His beginnings were very humble, but despite this Charles overcame the odds through hard work and dedication to become a successful businessman. Yet, he still made time to help others and faithfully serve at several Episcopal churches. He was a dedicated father, husband and grandfather and leaves behind a devoted wife of 52 years, Marilyn, their daughters Cheryl, Catherine (Jim), Charlene (Stan) and Marilyn (Mark), a son Robert (Marty) and eight grandchildren. We will miss you Jidu. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 7500 Southside Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32256, Tel 642-4575.
