CARN REFLECTIONS OF Deloris Rogers Carn October 15, 1940 - March 17, 2013 Deloris (Dee) Rogers Carn transitioned Sunday, March 17, at home with family by her side in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her funeral service will be held in Jacksonville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Greater Grant Memorial AME, 5533 Gilchrist Rd. Reverend Dr. James Proctor, Presiding Elder, will be officiating and Reverend Reuben Ford of First AME Church will be delivering the eulogy. The viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Carthage Chapel Funeral Home, 929 W Beaver St. Burial will follow the funeral at Restlawn Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Carthage Chapel Funeral Home. Deloris was one of four children from the union of Charlie Rogers and Gustaver Gooden. She attended Stanton high school and graduated from Florida A and M University (FAMU) in 1963 and Fisk University in 1965, with a Supervisory Administration from the University of Florida. Deloris married Bernard Carn in 1962 and had one child, Renard Carn. Deloris and Bernard were married for 42 years until his transition. They relocated to California in 1981 where she continued in the field of Education and as a community activist. She was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Oxnard, Co-Founder of the Bernard T. Carn Foundation, and a Golden member (50 plus years of membership) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., amongst many other noteworthy accomplishments. Deloris is survived by her son, grandchildren and other nieces and nephews. Deloris is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Charlie Rogers, Jr., Molly Manning, and Alberta Rogers Cross. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Bernard T. Carn Foundation, at the Funeral Service or mailed to P.O. Box 766, Oxnard CA 93030.
