Dorothy Dot Widman Obituary
WIDMAN Dorothy Dot Widman, 75, passed away suddenly but peacefully on February 8, 2014 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born to Kathryn A. Field and Albert D. Shambarger in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, where she met her beloved husband of 54 years, Michael U. Widman. After a move to Jacksonville, she taught special education in the Duval County Public Schools where she touched the lives of exceptional children at Oceanway, San Jose Elementary, Pine Forest Elementary and Mandarin Middle School for over three decades before retiring. She was a faithful member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and enjoyed playing mahjong with her friends at Westminster Woods. Dot was a lover of football and a devoted fan of her OSU Buckeyes. A gifted thinker, she will be remembered for her beautiful smile, gentle nature and wonderful sense of humor. She is preceded in death by her parents and survived by her husband, Michael; her daughter Carolyn Noonan and her husband Richard Noonan; her son Michael F. Widman and his wife Luann Widman; her daughter Margaret Dees and her husband Robert Dees. She is also survived by her much-loved granddaughters Courtney, Vivian and Lilah. The family would like to thank the loving support of their faith families, friends at Westminster Woods, and for the doctors and staff at Baptist Medical Center for their kindness and care over the last several years. A funeral mass will be held Friday, February 14th at 2:00pm at the Historic Church of St Josephs Catholic Church, 4124 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, FL 32258, Fr. Bernardine Eikhuemelo officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:00pm in the sanctuary immediately preceding the mass.
