Obituary Condolences

RAY On February 13, 2013 Our dad, George Vernon Ray Sr. left this scene of action only to be in the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ. He passed away peacefully at his home due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was 78 years old. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 16, 2013 at HOLLY HILL FUNERAL HOME, 3601 Old Jennings Rd, Middleburg, FL with Rev. Allen Yoder officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the chapel. George was born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 8, 1934. He was the youngest of 7 children. George leaves behind his brother Nelson W Ray. He was shining shoes and selling newspapers on the streets of Jacksonville at the age of 8. He joined the US Navy at the age of 17 as a firefighter. He was stationed in California where he met and married his wife of 49 years, Alicia Torres. He was an ordained minister and loved the Lord with all his heart. He worked for Ivy Steel & Wire where he joined the company as a laborer. He advanced to the plant manager and retired in 1997. He was active in many sports and excelled at all with his favorite being golf. He was a great husband, dad and friend to many with integrity and character. He is the father of 6 children. He is preceded in death by his son, Robert Nelson Ray Sr. Survivors include: Debbie & Lou Aragon, Mary & Chuck Scarborough, George Jr. & Corrine Ray, Andy & Gloria Ray and Faith Rebecca Shoemaker; 29 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson.
