George L. Dawson Obituary
DAWSON George L. Dawson passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013. He was born on May 31, 1926 in Jackson, LA, to the late Richmond and Fannie Bradford Dawson. George served his country faithfully for 20 years in the United States Navy and went on to serve an additional 15 years working for the government as a heavy equipment mechanic. George was baptized at an early age at F.T. Baptist Church in Jackson, LA, and was a faithful member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church for 62 years, where he served as a member of Usher Board #1 and in the Kitchen Ministry. George enjoyed fellowshipping with his church members, fishing and restoring cars. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clint Dawson and Joseph Dawson; and his sisters, Sarah Dawson Hardnett and Mary Dawson Rogers. George is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Dawson; son, George L. Dawson, Jr. (who is also son of the late Exie Lou Dawson); daughter, Rose Marie Lewis; sister, Martha Porche; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to St. Catherine Labour Manor, St. Vincent's Hospital staff, and Community Hospice of NE Florida for their special care, and the employees of the Golden Corral (Normandy Avenue) for their excellent service. They also extend special thanks to the Jimmy Butler, Michael Tyson and Vernon Bell families for their endless outpouring of love and support. The funeral service for Mr. Dawson will be on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 135 Brickyard Road, Middleburg, FL 32068. A viewing will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233. Interment will take place on Monday, December 16, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
