JOYNER Henry Steve Joyner, 66, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. A native of Jacksonville, he was a Master Electrician and had a long career in his field working for the Department of Defense as an inspector for the ROICC. He was in the Army and Navy serving in Vietnam, where he was critically wounded. Decorations and metals received were the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/1960, Bronze Star Medal w/ V Device, combat Infantryman Badge (1st Award), second Class Gunner, Sharpshooter, Expert, and was the recipient of two Purple Heart Medals. He loved the military and was the definition of a true American. Surviving is his wife of 39 years, Lealia Corey Joyner; daughter, Tammy Joyner; 4 sons, Michael Joyner (Dawn), George Rice (Lisa), John Rice and Matthew Joyner; 3 brothers, Randolph Joyner (Jan), Carson Joyner and Marcus Joyner; niece, Lindy Joyner; 13 grand and 2 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Avenue. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the Chapel of Corey-Kerlin with Rev. Lee Whittaker officiating.
