Jack W. Meadors Jr. Obituary
MEADORS Jack W. Meadors Jr., age 91, passed away at Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach on June 5, 2014. He was an engineer and general contractor. He owned J.W. Meadors and Company and later managed Meadors Construction Company. Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Wilma E. Meadors. Jack was born in Covington, Georgia and attended Lee High School for two years. He was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and received a Masters degree from the Case Institute of Technology (now Case Western Reserve). Jack served as an officer in the United States Naval Reserve during World War II. He was a licensed professional engineer in three states. After beginning a career in Industrial engineering, Jack moved to Jacksonville in 1956 to join his father in the construction business. During a forty-year career, Jack constructed water and waste-water facilities and pumping stations throughout Georgia and Northern Florida. The facilities he constructed continue to provide safe drinking water and a cleaner environment for the people they serve. Jack had been a member of the South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, San Jose Country Club, and the West Jacksonville Rotary Club. He was a long time resident of the Empire Point neighborhood on the Southside of Jacksonville (which he loved). He and Wilma enjoyed golf, travel and dinners with family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at Fleet Landing and Hospice of Northeast Florida, who were both caring and considerate. The family also wishes to thank Jack's caregivers, coordinated by Donna Meadors and Rose Carter who allowed him to live with dignity in familiar surroundings. He is survived by his sons Jack W. Meadors, III (Elise) and Gary H. Meadors (Donna) and their son Jack W. Meadors, IV. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2014 in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home, with Reverend Dr. Gabe Goodman of Community Presbyterian Church officiating. Private interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
