John R. (Jack) Chrischilles Obituary
CHRISCHILLES John R. (Jack) Chrischilles died Sunday July 27, 2014; he was 91. He went to be with The Lord, peacefully in his Jacksonville home with his loving wife Joan and family members around him. Jack was born in Algona, Iowa, on April 14, 1923. After graduating from Algona High School and Beloit College, he enrolled in the U.S. Officers Training Program and graduated from Midshipmen's School in December of 1943. He was stationed in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach and was discharged in 1946 from Mayport in Jacksonville. After Navy service, he entered the Chrischilles Store in Algona along with his brother and father. The Chrischilles Store was founded by his great grandfather in 1870 and closed in 1990, making it one of the oldest family-owned businesses in Iowa. Jack was active in its' operations for 37 years. Jack met his future wife Joan in Atlanta, Ga. on a blind date and it was love at first sight for both of them. They were married in February, 1954, and enjoyed a wonderful life together during 60 years of marriage. Jack always had fun with others and had a good sense of humor. He was a great husband and father, and was much loved by his family and those who knew him. He also deeply loved The Lord, and the Episcopal Church of Our Savior where he was active in many capacities. He is survived by his wife Joan; his son Brad in Jacksonville and Brad's wife LeAnne and sons Chase (12) & Connor (10); his daughter Jodie in Kauai, Hawaii and her husband Mark and their daughters Rachel (19) & Lauren (15). He is also survived by his brother Julian in Okoboji, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Jacksonville on August 23rd at 11:00am with reception to follow. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials are given to the N.E.
