JACKSON Mr. Joseph Calvin Jackson - born April 28, 1947 in Pensacola, Florida, died July 17, 2014 in Jacksonville. Joe was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie and Velma Jackson and is survived by his wife: Wendy; 3 children: Laurie Chafton, Benton Arkansas, Robert and Sarah; 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother: John (Barbara) and 2 sisters: Bonnie Cason and Charlene Rose. Joe was a graduate of the class of 1965 from Ribault High School. Upon graduation, he entered the US Army Airborne where he served his country in the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam in 1966, the 101st Screaming Eagles Airborne Division in 1967 and the 82nd Army Airborne 3rd Brigade in Vietnam in 1968. He served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and received 2 Purple Hearts and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for 3 major battles, which included the Tet Offensive in 1968 where he was wounded. Joe worked at Prudential Insurance. Along the way he earned his FLMI as well as a Business Degree from Jones College. He retired on disability after 24 years of service. Joe was a compassionate person and had a great love for animals. His family will honor him with a Memorial service on August 30th in Birmingham, AL. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
