KATE TERRY Obituary
TERRY Kate Lyle Terry, 89, widow of Richard Graham Terry, passed away June 3, 2013 in Tuscaloosa, AL at the home of her daughter, Kathryn. She was the daughter of the late John and Grace Lyle and the youngest of eight brothers and sisters. She grew up in Richburg, SC and graduated from Winthrop College. She worked at General Motors in the late 40 s and early 50 s. After marrying, she and Dick settled in Jacksonville and had Rick and Lyle (the twins), Kathryn, and Nora. They joined Arlington Presbyterian and became integral parts of the church, making many lifelong friends. She founded the Road Runners group for widows, the Prayer Chain and the Sharing and Caring Committee and was involved in many other activities in the life of the church. She was a homemaker, den mother, taxi driver, seamstress, nurse, chef, coach, teacher, gardener and office manager of the Terry household. Kate was able to draw strength from friends and family members during Dick s illness and after his death in 1978. She then was Mema to 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Leslie Lyle, her children: Rick Terry, Lyle and Craig Tyre, Kathryn and Ross White, Nora and Randy Mayo, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews, whom she adored. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 4 sisters, 3 sister-in-laws, 2 brother-in-laws, and daughter-in-law, Pat. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 15 at 11:00 at Arlington Presbyterian Church with a reception after. Memorials may be given to the church.
