Keith M. Kelly Obituary
KELLY Keith M. Kelly, 85, of Green Cove Springs, FL, died peacefully Nov. 21, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lansing, MI, December 21, 1927, to Weldon and Blanche Kelly. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the end of World War II, and received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan in 1951. Keith was employed by KBJ architects from 1966-1978 and during that time he designed a number of Jacksonville's notable buildings, including the Independent Life Building and the Jacksonville University Admin Building. Subsequently he worked for William Morgan Architects and for 13 years was the FSCJ College Architect, where he participated in the design of Kent Campus. During his long career, he designed a number of buildings that received A.I.A. design awards, including churches, schools and colleges, and municipal and commercial buildings. Throughout his life, Keith shared his love of nature and his curiosity about the world with his family--exploring, camping, hiking, and canoeing. As a member of Trailblazers, Seminole Canoe and Kayaking Club and Florida Sport Paddlers, he got to explore the world from Norway to Antarctica, the Galapagos to Alaska, America's parks to Florida's rivers. He will be remembered for his modest manner, his quiet intellect, and his love for the natural world. Keith was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Donna (Marolf) Kelly, in 1991. He is survived by his two daughters, Kathy Kelly (Jim Wright) of Falls Church, VA, and Sharon Kelly, of Rockledge, FL; by his grandchildren, Christopher Fitts, Jonathan Fitts, Patrick Fitts, and Morgan Schlig; and by his loving companion of 20 years, Ruth Marwitz, of Green Cove Springs, and their Sheltie, Prince. Join the family in sharing happy memories at Ruth's and Keith's home in Green Cove Springs, 2 to 4 pm, Saturday, Nov. 30. You can contact the family at sharon.kelly@allscripts.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Northern Virginia Sheltie Rescue or an environmental organization of your choice. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
