VEAL Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com Mr. Lamar Veal, Jr., age 76, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at his residence. Lamar was born in Jacksonville, FL the son of Virginia Inez Bates Veal and the late Prentice Lamar Veal. Growing up in Jacksonville, he attended John Gorie Junior High School and was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. He later graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville where he was a life member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. Lamar was an accomplished musician, had a wonderful singing voice and played the Tenor and Bass Saxophone. He played in several local bands to include Frankie and the Flashbacks, the Morrocco Swing Band , The Top Shelf Orchestra in addition to his band The Pyramids. He was a member of the Orange Park Masonic Lodge F & AM, the York Rite Bodies, the Morocco Shrine Temple and the Morocco Dance Band. He was a 25 year member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court No. 90, Jacksonville, FL. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a son, Kurt Ward and a grandson, A.J. Prater. He leaves behind, his wife of 35 years, Nellie Hallenbeck Veal, Jacksonville, FL, his mother, Virginia Bates Veal, Jacksonville, FL, daughters, Merri Dickinson, Michelle Veal, Christy Carroll and her husband, Rick, Kelye Fox, a brother, Lewis Veal, grandchildren, Ashlyn Carlson, Sommer Ward, Jared Prater, Mikey Dickinson, Kevin Dickinson, Hunter Ward, Trevor Ward, a great granddaughter, Lucy Dickinson, many nieces and nephews and extended loving family members. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 15, 2014 in the chapel of Hardage Giddens Rivermead Blanding Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Croft, officiating. Mr. Veal was laid to rest, with Military Honors, at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, Orange Park, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or to Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
