Leonard Thomas Recker Jr. Obituary
RECKER Leonard Thomas Recker, Jr., 85, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, passed away on November 17, 2013. Leonard was born on April 7, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Leonard Thomas Recker, Sr., and Clara Margaret Recker. Len graduated from The Englewood School for Boys in Englewood, NJ in 1946 and Yale University in 1950. He then served in the US Navy during the Korean War. During his service as an enlisted officer in US Navy, he met and married Jacqueline Laurel Newell (Jackie). Upon his completion of service, they married and settled in Tenafly, NJ. He was employed by the John S. Swift Company and eventually became president. Len was an avid Rotarian, member of the NY Athletic Club, The Bath Club of Miami Beach, Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, the Mayport Navy League, The Englewood Field Club, and the Knickerbocker County Club. In addition, he was the chairman of the Yale Alumni Association of Bergen County, NJ. Len is predeceased by his loving wife Jacqueline, and is survived by his son L.T. Recker III and Michelle Holland Recker of McKinney, TX; daughter, Laurel Recker Mathews of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; grandchildren, L.T. Recker IV and Jacqueline A. Recker of McKinney TX, Emory Jordan Mathews and Preston John Mathews of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; brother Bruce Richard Recker and Margaret Mary Recker of Flat Rock, NC. The family wishes to recognize and thank Fleet Landing and Community Hospice of NE Florida. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Fleet Landing Endowment Fund, 1 Fleet Landing Blvd. Atlantic Beach, FL 32233 or Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32257. A US Navy ceremony will be held in his honor where his ashes will be set free over the Atlantic Ocean.
