COREY Marie Aline Corey, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born July 31, 1925 in Lutcher, Louisiana. Mrs. Corey was a registered nurse. She served as a cadet nurse during World War II. She was the Emergency Room Head Nurse at Cincinnati General Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio and later became the Emergency Room Head Nurse at Duval Medical Center in Jacksonville. She also was a registered nurse for Boy Scout Summer Camp and served as a respite nurse until 2004 when she officially retired. She was a founding co-owner of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home. Marie was a member of the American Business Women s Association, the Suwannee Bicycle Association and an honorary member of the NAS-JAX Navy Wives Club, working at the Naval Thrift Store. She was a lifetime member since 1969 of the Loyal Order of the Moose, North Jacksonville Chapter # 2134. She was a founding member of St. Patrick s Catholic Church and then a founding member of Mary, Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Quilting Guild in Argyle Forest. Marie was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Maggie Bell-Herndon in August 2007. Survivors include her son, John Corey; two daughters, Lealia (Steve) Joyner and Mary (Michael) Nunn; one brother, Stephen (Laura) Deslattes of Norco, LA; one sister, Georgia Landry of Norco, LA, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and many who were loved as children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 19, at Mary, Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 9401 Staples Mill Drive, with Fr. Denis O Shaughnessy and Fr. Anthony Sebra officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary s Catholic Cemetery at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday (TODAY) at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Avenue.
