MARY COMPTON Obituary
COMPTON Mary Eleanor Taylor Compton, 83, passed away in Jacksonville, FL November 14, 2012. She was born June 23, 1929 to Myrtle Eleanor Drake and James Allen Taylor in Huntsville, AL and was one of four siblings. Mary Taylor Compton graduated from Huntsville, AL High School in 1946 and Vanderbilt University in 1950. She began her career working for Sun Aircraft in San Diego, CA and returned in the early 50 s to Jacksonville, FL to be a teacher in the public school system. In 1956, she met her future husband, a naval aviator. She was a devoted mother and wife, always placing their interests ahead of her own. Mary was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church and later adopted her husband s Episcopalian Church. Mary, who served as the head of many Navy Wives Clubs, active with her church and tennis leagues, particularly was fond of her service to the Daughters of the American Revolution. She had the gift of music and loved to play the piano. Mary had four children with Bryan Whitfield Compton, Jr. who survive her; Bryan Whitfield Compton, III, David Taylor Compton, Mary Catherine Compton, and Ann Eleanor Compton Arnold; brother William Ewing Taylor; grandchildren Audrey Arnold, Natalie Arnold, Daniel Arnold, Taylor Compton, Nolan Compton, and Ethan Compton. She was predeceased by her sister Lucy Caldwell and brother James Taylor. A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 20th, from 12-1:30pm at the Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL, with a graveside service to follow at 2pm in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
