Obituary Condolences

SCOTT Melanie Lynne (Holt) Scott passed away suddenly on February 20, 2013 at St. Vincent s South, Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on July 17, 1954 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Her father, Abner Bernard Scott was a farmer in Malvern, Iowa and her mother, Marjorie Elaine (Tucker) Scott was a homemaker and helped on the farm. In 1956 the family moved to Colorado where they had a restaurant. In 1958 Melanie s father died and her mother married Walter Holt, a civil engineer. From 1962 to 1969 Melanie lived in Pakistan and attended the Lahore American Society School, a college prep school. During these years Melanie had the opportunity to travel the world and her experiences formed much of her character and perspective on life. Melanie received an Associates degree in Psychology from Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming; a Bachelors in Interpersonal Communication from Arizona State University; and a Masters degree in Education from the University of North Florida. Melanie devoted her life to social services, working with the mentally and physically handicapped. She thoroughly believed that these people receive the education and opportunity to lead an independent life and be treated with respect. She was preceded in death by her older sister Sharon, father and mother. She is survived by her brother Allen Scott (Sharon); sister Debbie Manning (Greg) three nephews, 2 great-nephews, 2 great-nieces, many aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be loved and missed by all. Viewing will be at Hardage & Giddens Funeral Home on Sunday, February 24 from 3:00 to 5:00. , 4115 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida.
