Mark Whitnell Miller Obituary
MILLER Mark Whitnell Miller passed away unexpectedly at home on January 20, 2014 at the age of 66. Mark was born in Orlando, Florida on May 2, 1947 to Marjorie and Ben Miller. Mark is survived by his wife and college sweetheart, Sue G. Miller, to whom he was married for 43 years; by his daughters Amy Miller Wolpert (John) of Kensington, CA and Glenda Miller of Jacksonville, FL; grandson Jonas Glen Miller and infant granddaughter Catherine Elizabeth Wolpert; his parents of Jacksonville, FL; brother Ben Miller (Dana) of Tallahassee, FL; sister-in-law Jill Foster (Jeff) of Chanute, KS; and six nieces and one nephew. Mark was a loyal and trustworthy husband, father, friend, and businessman. Nothing gave him more joy than being surrounded by, and taking care of his loving family and cherished friends. One of Mark s many lasting legacies is the positive influence he had on the people in his life. Anyone who knew him knew his complete devotion and commitment to his grandson, Jonas. Mark graduated from Terry Parker High School, Class of 1965, and nurtured relationships with his classmates for 50 years. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a BSBA. After 10 years in the corporate world, he returned to Jacksonville and started the Precision Tune auto care centers. He successfully grew the business to seven locations and enjoyed helping other franchisees around the country. Upon his retirement from Precision Tune, Mark continued ownership and management of several commercial properties in Jacksonville. Mark s faith was of utmost importance to him and was the foundation on which he conducted his personal and business life. He was known for honesty, integrity, leadership, and his love for the Lord. He was a founding member of Crossroad United Methodist Church and served on the Church Council and as Finance Chairman. He was also an active member of Bright Hope Laurel United Methodist Church near their second home in Wolf Laurel, NC. Mark served on many boards and organizations including TEC (The Executive Committee), Hospice of N.E. Florida and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He was a past Chairman of the Jacksonville Sports and Entertainment Commission. Mark was the current Vice President of the Wolf Laurel Property Owner s Association. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Deerwood and spear-headed their Seamark Ranch project. As a member of the Deerwood Country Club, where he and Sue have lived for 32 years, Mark formed many deep relationships with fellow golfers and neighbors. He was also a member of the Wolf Laurel Golf and Country Club, where he made many new and meaningful friendships. A celebration of Mark s life and reception will be held Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. at CrossRoad United Methodist Church, 10005 Gate Parkway N. 32246. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Crossroad UMC or Bright Hope Laurel UMC.
