Paul Walton Kempe Obituary
KEMPE Paul Walton Kempe, 94, died peacefully Sunday, April 6, 2014 in Jacksonville, FL. Paul spent his youth in Des Moines, IA, attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and went on to enlist in the Army during WWII where he achieved the rank of 1st Lt. After the war he entered Northwestern University and earned his Master s degree in hospital administration which led to a lifetime career as a hospital administrator at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, IL and Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. He and his beloved wife, Mary, retired to Midlothian, VA in 1984 where they enjoyed traveling, reading, fishing, music, their faith and time spent with their children and grandchildren. Mary predeceased him in 1998. In addition to his sister, Barbara and brother, Eugene, Paul is survived by his 3 children and their spouses, Susan (Bob) Gregg of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, John (Cherie) Kempe of Ponte Vedra, FL, Martha (Richard) Chalmers of Camden, ME, his grandchildren, Jennifer Bacani (Dr. C. Joseph) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Christopher Gregg (Erin) of Vienna, Austria, David Kempe of Auburn, WA, Sara Kempe of Issaquah, WA, Cameron Chalmers of Morrill, ME and Ellery Chalmers of Chicago, IL and his three great grandchildren, Nolan, Morgan and Evan Bacani. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 9, 2014, at 4:00p.m., in the chapel of Christ Episcopal Church of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. He will be interred alongside his Mary at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com.
