Peter Donnelly Obituary
DONNELLY Hon. Peter Edward Donnelly, age 80, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, surrounded by his wife and daughters, died on March 30th after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Peter was born in 1931 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Peter James and Agnes Mary Donnelly, and is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Christopher Lamar of Arlington, VA; daughter, Maureen A. Donnelly of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and sister, Maureen Donnelly Wright of Stratford, Connecticut. Peter was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Lisa Donnelly Watson, and his brother-in-law, Richard James Wright. He is also survived by 2 stepchildren, 4 step grandchildren, one niece, three nephews, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Peter graduated from College of the Holy Cross, with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1953. Following graduation, he entered Officer Candidates School where he was offered and accepted a commission as 2nd Lieutenant with the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the Korean War where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Following his honorable discharge, Peter entered Georgetown University Law Center from which earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1958 and a Master of Laws degree in 1962. Peter began his 40-year legal career in 1958 as an attorney with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and in 1974, was appointed Administrative Law Judge, a position which he held until his retirement in 1997. Along with his lifelong passion for playing handball, Peter avidly pursued the conquest of golf and could be seen nearly every Sunday playing 18 holes with his wife, Barbara. Though many will remember him for his unassuming charm, it was his wish to be remembered as a man who tried to do the next right thing with love and humor. A memorial service for Peter will be held on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul s Catholic Church located at 224 North 5th Street in Jacksonville Beach Florida, with a reception to follow.
