RICHARD FRY Obituary
FRY Dr. Richard M. Fry, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Gainesville, Florida on January 23, 2013. He was born in New York City in 1926. He attended Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts. He served in the US Navy (Pacific) from 1944-46, graduated from Denison University in Ohio and from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his Orthopaedic Residency with an interest in hand surgery from the University Of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His fellowship in Hand Surgery followed at The Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, Derby, England. He moved to Gainesville, Florida as a professor at UF School of Medicine, followed by private Orthopaedic Surgery practice. He also worked in the V.A. Hospital in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Fry served on an Executive Committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, and as President of the Florida Orthopaedic Society. He was a member of the FMA and Alachua County Medical Society. He met the love of his life, Justine, in medical school and they married in 1955. They had a successful medical practice together and raised a family that has been active in many organizations in the community. Dr. Fry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dr. Justine Vaughen Fry and two daughters, Martha Morrow (John) of Orange Park, Fl and Amanda Tung (Doug) of Santa Monica, CA and 5 grandchildren. He is also survived by a large extended family and many many close friends and associates. He is preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Louis Fry. A Celebration of Life will be held for Dr. Richard Fry on Saturday, February 2, at First Presbyterian Church, 106 SW 3rd St., Gainesville FL 32601 at 2 PM with a reception to follow in Gordon Hall, Dr. Robert Shettler officiating.
