THOMAS CUMMINGS Obituary
CUMMINGS Homegoing service for Rev. Dr. Thomas Roscoe Cummings will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 at 10:00 AM in First New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 4835 Soutel Drive where he held membership, Rev. Dr. James B. Sampson, Pastor. Dr. Cummings passed away October 11, 2013. He was born on August 6, 1935 to the late Roscoe and Annie B. Cummings in Yukon, Florida. He was the former pastor of Oneal Memorial Baptist Church in Oneal, Florida. He was also one of the first African American Bus drivers for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority. He received his early education in the local schools, graduating from New Stanton High School Class of 1954. Furthering his education, he graduated from Edward Waters College. Dr. Cummings was a Korean War Veteran, serving his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force. He later attended and graduated from Luther Rice Seminary, American Baptist Theological Seminary and received his Doctoral Degree in Theology from Southern Theological Baptist Seminary. He leaves to cherish his memory; a loving wife, Faye Davis Cummings; children, Renette C. Lott (Dwayne) Greensboro, NC, Thomas E. Cummings (Eloise), Columbia, SC, Karen C. Jackson, Horace Cummings, Marilynn Clemons, Patricia Jones (David), Ben Jordan, Jr., Walter L. Jordan (Cassandra) and JoAnna Johnson (Ricky); grandchildren, Dr. Nekeshia C. Doctor (Zeboye), Natrina Cummings, Erica Williams, Darryl Cummings, Laqua Cummings, Diamond Lott, Eric Cummings, Jr. and Robert Jackson; 5 great grands, sister, Wilma Thompkins (Melvin); special grandson, Rev. William Goode (Rosalyn); uncle, Charles Fennell; a host of nieces, nephews, and a number of other relatives and friends. Dr. Cummings will rest in First New Zion Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 4-6 PM for the visitation of friends, following a Victory Service in the sanctuary from 6-8PM.
