Terry E. AKINS Obituary
AKINS Terry E. Akins (affectionately known as T-Bone to his children, especially his granddaughter, Brooke) departed this life on April 13, 2014, Masters Sunday/Palm Sunday, from stroke complications. Terry was a devoted husband (Best Friend) to Skeets, his wife of 38 years, as well as a devoted father to his children, Todd (Allison and Granddaughter, Brooke) and Shannon (Doug Lukach). Also very close to him was his only sibling, Ken (Beverly and Niece, Ashley) and Brother-in-law John Fain (Joyce, Nephew Chris, and Niece Lauren). Terry was pre-deceased by his parents, Martin and Medra Akins. Always the Athlete he lived his life to the fullest. Terry will be proudly inducted into the Miami High School Athletic Hall of Fame on April 26th. Go Stingarees! He graduated from Georgia Tech where he played basketball on a full scholarship. Go Jackets! An avid golfer, he overcame cancer and the loss of sight in one eye to play a pretty decent round of golf. He even took a few bucks from his JGCC buddies! Terry served as President of the Alarm Association of FL (founding member), the University Club, and was proudly a Rotarian. He was also a former member of Riviera Country Club in Coral Gables, FL. We thank everyone for all the prayers and thoughts and he was proud to know that so many people cared for him. Donations in his memory to the Miami High Athletic Association or Georgia Tech Athletic Association would be greatly appreciated. A Celebration of Life is being planned on Saturday, May 10th, from 2pm to 5pm at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club, 3985 Hunt Club Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32224. Terry was loved by many and we would like to honor our beloved T-Bone by toasting him with one of his favorite sayings: May your palm tree stand tall and your coconuts never hit the ground! Love you always, T-Bone! Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach, FL 904-249-2374 Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
