Obituary Condolences

ROBERTS W. Arthur Roberts, 64, a 2nd generation Jacksonville native born February 11, 1948 died suddenly Friday, August 10, 2012 while hiking through Westside in preparation for the 2013 Gettysburg Sesquicentennial re-enactment. The son of the late Madeline Louise Soderberg and Walter Andrew Roberts, Jr., Arthur graduated from Ribault Senior High School 1966 and earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida, a Master's Degree from University of Florida, a Specialist degree from Florida State University, completed additional graduate work in History at Virginia Military University, and was a PhD candidate in Educational Administration at University of Florida. He taught Chemistry at William M. Raines High School, Stanton College Preparatory School, Florida State Community College; and he taught Statistics for Nova University. As a school administrator, Mr. Roberts worked in Title I and Research, Planning and Evaluation. He was Assistant Principal of Landon Junior High School and Vice Principal of Stanton College Preparatory School, Edward H. White High School, Kirby-Smith Middle School, and Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology. An ardent student of the Civil War, Arthur was an expert on military maneuvers. He enjoyed visiting the various Civil War battlefields and participating in reenactments as part of the 3rd FLA regiment. Enthusiastically, he visited classrooms in full regalia to share his knowledge of that trying time. He enjoyed reading, drinking coffee, drumming, hiking, and gardening. Arthur is survived by his wife Cyndy Broussard Roberts; their daughter Christine In, her husband Visarath, sons Reynard and Beredei of San Diego; their daughter Angela Roberts, her daughter Gabriella Grace of New York; and their son Warren Andrew Roberts of Jacksonville. The Visitation will be held Friday, August 17th, from 6 to 9 PM with a rosary and memorial service at 7:30 PM at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd,. Jacksonville, 32221. At 1PM on Saturday. August 18th there will be a funeral service, followed by Confederate Military Honors at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 8523 Normandy Blvd. Jacksonville, 32221. A reception will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Roberts' memory to the Civil War Trust, 1156 15th Street NW Suite 900, Washington D.C. 20005, preserving Civil War battlefield sites for the enjoyment and education of future generations.
