MCCALL Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com Wallace Mac McCall, 87, of Jacksonville passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at his residence. Wallace was the son of the late Horace Fillmore McCall and Esther Lewis McCall. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Merlin McCall Howell and Genevieve McCall Grubbs; and brothers, Fillmore McCall, II and Gene Robin McCall. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Knotts McCall of Jacksonville; his son, Mark Coby McCall and wife Joyce of Fleming Island; his daughter, Lori Beth McCall of Charlotte, NC; nephews, John and Randall Howell and niece, Kim Watson and numerous extended family members. Wallace was born Dec. 17, 1925 in Jennings, Florida. His family owned an 1100 acre farm and he was very proud of his heritage as a farmer. He was drafted toward the end of World War II and in 1945 served as a gunner on the USS Brownson. After the war, he completed his Agriculture Economics degree in 1950 at the University of Florida where he met his wife, Betty. They were married in 1951. He was a huge Gator fan and loved watching all the games. He was an avid birdwatcher and a talented woodworker. He enjoyed making many beautiful things for friends and family. He and Betty were members of the German American Club. He was also a member of the Lake Shore Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. He was known as a kind and generous man who for years was a caregiver for elderly family members. He retired from Florida Feed Mills in 1988 and he and Betty then enjoyed spending half of the year in the mountains of Western North Carolina. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Jan. 26th at 3:00 p.m. at the Lake Shore Presbyterian Church, 2270 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Shore Presbyterian Church or to the . Masters Funeral Home of Palatka is assisting the family with cremations arrangements.
