WILLIAM BROCK Obituary
BROCK On May 12, 2013, our family suffered the loss of its patriarch, William J. Brock of Jacksonville, FL at the age of 91. Bill was born in Corbin, KY and was married to Alice. He is preceded in death by his son, David and granddaughter, Caroline. He is survived by his children, Bill, Jim, Mary, John, Paul, Diane, Dan, Katie, Bob, Susie, Carole and Patti; grandchildren, Kevin, David, Patrick, Sarah, Brian, Christina, Sara, Jon, Steve, Michael, Zack, Jason, Eric, Kelly, Sam and William; and great-grandchildren Alissa, Michael, Carl and Shaun. Bill was a dedicated husband who honored and served the love of his life, Alice, all of his life. They had just recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He modeled dignity, manners, godliness, character and strength to all who knew him, most especially his children. He was gracious, funny, stubborn, gentlemanly, tough, doting and always thankful. To be loved by him was the most profound blessing. Our memories include him making Sunday breakfasts and sitting on his broad shoulders during long walks. Dad would lead his tribe to swimming, basketball games and trips to the Jersey shore. He loved to read and to complete the New York Times crossword puzzle after church. A World War II Veteran, he flew in over 25 B17 missions over Germany. A graduate of Georgia Tech, he swam competitively throughout his life, earning medals in master s swim tournaments well into his 70 s. He returned to school in his 50 s to earn a Master s Degree in industrial engineering from Penn State University. He worked at Western Electric for his entire career. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach, with internment following at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a reception following the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul s Catholic Church - 224 North 5th Street, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
