BUDKE William Phelan Budke, Sr, age 93 passed away Oct 15, 2013. Husband of 66 years to Martha Furr Budke. Originally from St Louis, they moved to Jacksonville 24 years ago. Survived by his wife Martha, daughter Allison Budke Weiland, two grandchildren, Timothy Weiland (NY) and Page (Travis) Maton. In St Louis, 4 grandchildren Russell (Lorraine) Budke, Darla Grzeskowiak, Marta Umphrey, Bradley Budke & great grandchildren. Two sons preceded him in death, Louis Henry Hank Budke III, William Phelan Budke, Jr and his wife Kathryn Kiel Budke, all in St Louis. He served in the US Army as a Sgt. 4th General Hospital 32nd Infantry in Papua, New Guinea & Melbourne, Australia. He graduated from the University of MO with a Bachelor of Journalism, was an Adjutant, Lt. Col in Advanced ROTC and a Kappa Sigma. He joined the Equitable Life Assurance in 1955. He was a Life Member Million Dollar Round Table, Past President of the Life Underwriters Assn of St Louis and Estate Planning Council of St Louis, member Missouri Association of Life Leaders (MALL) for 18 years. For over 20 years, he played golf at Deerwood Country Club, was an usher at Holy Family Catholic Church and volunteer at TPC. In St Louis, he was a long time member of Westborough Country Club. He will be remembered for his witty humor, his wool plaid Pendleton pants and his colorful sport coats. He was one of a kind and left everyone with a smile on their face. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday Nov 8th at 10:30am at Holy Family Catholic Church 9800 Baymeadows Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Final resting will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St Louis, MO at a later date. Donations can be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville, FL.
