Alex S. Helchowski, age 88, of Rossford, Ohio passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He was born on December 1, 1924, in
Detroit, Michigan to Stanley and Klementine Helchowski. Alex was U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of the Rossford VFW Post 6409 and served as their Commander for 10 years. Alex married Jennie Baranski and she preceded him in death in 1999 after 50 years together. He was employed with Chrysler Corp for 40 years, retiring in 1986.
Surviving are his daughter, Sharon Koliba; son, Allen (Vicky) Helchowski; 6 grandsons and 8 great-grandchildren.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jennie; son, Robert, and son-in-law, Dennis Koliba.
Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd. on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., where a scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation for Alex will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons Funeral Home, 36900 Schoenherr Rd., Sterling Heights, MI 48312. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edmunds Catholic Church in Warren, MI.
