Althea H. Kaul, age 89, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2014, after spending the majority of her life in the Toledo area. She was born September 2, 1924, to the late William Charles and Viola (Winter) Kaul in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is survived by her nieces, Cynthia Carter and Barbara LeBlanc, a loyal friend, Ernest Weaver, and her favorite Scottish Terrier, "Wendy Darling".
Althea attended Thomas DeVilbiss High School and the University of Michigan, after which she made a career at Martin-Perry and Doehler-Jarvis Corporations.
Althea was actively involved in numerous organizations, Toledo Tennis Club, Toledo Badminton Club, Alumni Association of the University of Michigan, Trinity Episcopal Church, Toledo Museum of Art, and American Association of University Women. Althea was a ballroom dance instructor at Marie Bollinger Vogt's dance school for many years.
She enjoyed membership in the English-Speaking Union, Toledo Symphony, Maumee Valley Historical Society, Maumee Valley Herb Society, Flower Hospital Auxiliary, Sunset House, Ability Center of Toledo, American Guild of Organists, Monday Musicale, St. Michael's in the Hills Episcopal Church, and University of Michigan's Clements Library, Matthaei Botanical Garden and Michigan Map Society.
After her retirement in 1991, Althea traveled extensively with the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan, and to England in the company of the Canterbury Choir of Trinity Episcopal Church.
A memorial service will be held at St. Michael's in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4718 Brittany Rd. in Ottawa Hills, at 10 a.m. on April 24. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Those wishing to offer memorials may consider St. Michael's in the Hills.
