Andrew "Andy" Jr.

Andrew "Andy" Carr Jr., 86, passed away on June 2, 2014, at Ebeid Hospice. He was born February 12, 1928, to Mary Elizabeth Mientkiewicz and Andrew B. (Butch) Carr. Andy was baptized February 26, 1928, at St. Agnes Church. He was 1 year old when the family moved to Most Blessed Sacrament Church where he went to school. He took tap dancing lessons and performed at the Paramount Theater bank nights on Wednesdays. He also was a first class boy scout and sang in the children's choir. He graduated grade school in 1942 and attended Central Catholic High School where he was in the glee club, stage manager and a cheer leader. Andy was a WWII Army veteran and worked for Valley Farm Foods for 27 years and then for 6 years worked for Monarch Foods in Ft. Wayne, IN, until his retirement in 1990. In 1950 he married his high school sweetheart Patricia Ann Spalding at St. Agnes Church.

While at St. Agnes he was in the choir, ushered, a Boy Scout committeeman and prayer chairman in the renew program. He was one of the first ten men to be extra ministers of Holy Communion at St. Agnes Church. Andy also was president of the Holy Name Society and started the Holy Rosary Confraternity. He was commissioned an acolyte in 1979 and made hospital calls to the sick for the parish. When St. Agnes closed in 2005, he went back to Most Blessed Sacrament Church where he became a Mass coordinator. He started the Holy Rosary Confraternity and was a receptionist on Fridays. Andy was a member of Eleanor Kahle Senior Center, Blessed Sacrament Senior Group and the Knights of Columbus Council #3122. Andy made rosaries and sent them all over the world and gave them to all who needed them. He sponsored two children in Guatemala, Sandra and Douglas.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Michael (Micky) Carr and Becky (Charles) Stachowiak; 8 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia; daughter, Linda Herman; his parents; brother, Donald, and sister, Mary Ann Young.

Visitation for Andy will be at Gasiorowski-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1757 Tremainsville Rd. (at Sylvania) from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014, where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Internment services will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
