Barbara Bunting

Barbara Bunting Norman passed away at the age of 83 on Friday, September 13, at the Franciscan Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio. Barbara was born on April 9, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio, the only child of Donald M. Bunting. Barb was raised by her grandmother, Elizabeth Bunting, and by her aunt, Dorothy Bunting. She grew up on Harvard Boulevard in South Toledo and attended Harvard Elementary and Libbey High School. She earned her Bachelor's of Education from the University of Toledo, and her Master's from Eastern Michigan University, and was the first in her family to earn a college degree. Barb taught school for over 40 years in Michigan and Florida, with over 30 years of service in the Anthony Wayne School District at the old Monclova Elementary and at both the old and new Fallen Timbers Middle School. She retired in 1995. Barb loved her students, referring to them as "her kids." It wasn't unusual for her to quietly purchase school supplies or lunches for "her kids" who were unable to afford them. She was known for her great sense of humor, independence, strong morals, and generosity. She was ever the social coordinator - organizing parties, dinners, lunches and Sunday brunches at the "club" for family and friends. Later in life she enjoyed weekly outings with her cousin, Bill Bunting, and his wife Cathy. Barb was a long-time member of the Maumee River Yacht Club, serving on the Board, volunteering every Sunday, and assisting with a monthly newsletter, special events and supporting the Ladies' Auxiliary. Her high school graduation party was even held at the club. She was also active with the Chi Omega Sorority, the Maumee Elks and the Ladies' Shrine. Throughout her life, Barb loved animals, and she adored and spoiled her pets, always considering them as members of her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald M. Bunting, and by her cousin, Bill Bunting. Barb is survived by her loving daughter, Andrea (Andi) Norman (Chris Dudek), and by her cousins, Bob Bunting, Barry Bunting and Bart Bunting.

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 28, with a memorial celebration immediately following at 1:00 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, OH 43614. Burial will be private at the historic Woodlawn Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions in Barb's memory be made to the Anthony Wayne Education Foundation, PO Box 294, Waterville, OH 43566 or a .

Gratitude is extended to all family and friends for their thoughtfulness and friendship especially Chris Dudek, Cathy Bunting, Nancy Martin, Natalie Roberts, Elsie Bellner, Patrick Rockwell, and Troy Schlosser.

Deep appreciation is expressed to the Franciscan Care Center staff who provided special care and kindness to Barb including Telly Timpson, Deb Villolovos a.k.a, Sherlock, Theresia Ngeniform, Kara Bosely, Diane Gardull, Carlee Zink, Tawnny Goodell, Cassandra Porter and Sister Jordan.
