Charles Earl Kessinger, born August 6, 1918, in Ironton Ohio, the son of Charles and Georgia Kessinger, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014. His father was killed in WWII and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Charles was in C.C.C. in Findlay, Ohio. He joined the Navy in 1940 and was in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 on the battleship U.S.S. Pennsylvania, serving until being honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed by Owens Illinois for 30 years as a glass tech at the OI Tech Center and was manager and commissioner of the OI Little League. Charles also played baseball for the U.S.S. Pennsylvania and in Lincoln, CA. He met his wife, the former Ruth Elaine Hunter, in Sacramento CA, a marriage spanning 71 years. Charles was a member of Little Flower Parish and a Cincinnati Reds fan.
Preceding him in death were his brothers, Leonard, Burton and James Kinkaid.
Surviving is his wife, Ruth and their six children, Charles (Pam) Kessinger, Gary (Elaine) Kessinger, Cathy Kessinger, Carol (Michael) Bury, Steven (Lucinda) Kessinger, Michael (Tamara) Kessinger; brother, Ronald (Nancy) Kinkaid; sisters, Alice Ledyard and Connie (Gene) Ward; also twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at Little Flower Church, 5522 Dorr St. with Funeral Mass beginning at 7 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held Friday, May 2, 2014, at 9 a.m. in Resurrection Cemetery. Arrangements by Thomas I Wisniewski Funeral Home.
