Daniel J. "Danny"

Daniel J. "Danny" Kwiatkowski, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, surrounded by his loving family. Danny was born on April 1, 1926, in Toledo, the son of Casimier and Anna (Drzwiecki) Kwiatkowski. Danny worked for 33 years at Plant 8, Libbey Owens Ford Co., retiring in 1983. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a combat infantryman with the 3rd Division in France and Germany. Danny received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals and was a former P.O.W. Since 1966 he was in charge of the military services on Memorial Day at Calvary Cemetery. Danny was a charter member of the former St. Jude Church where he also volunteered as gardener and all around handyman. In the 1960's Danny coached grade school baseball for seven years with his teams winning several championships. He also coached the basketball team one year and had an undefeated season.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry "Mudcat"; brothers, Ted, Ray, and Dominic, and sisters, Irene Nowak and Esther Jankowski. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Genevieve "Jean" (Konicki); son, Chris (Pam); daughters, Kathy (Doug) Allen and Janet (Larry) Woods; daughter-in-law, Tina Duran, and grandchildren, Shannon (David) Flowers, Rachel (Chuck) Mischley, Andrew, Tim, and Tori Allen and Jerek and Casey Kwiatkowski.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the W. K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy. where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors by the Lucas Co. Burial Corp will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff on 2 North at the Ohio Veterans Home for the exceptional care they gave to Danny during his stay there. Tributes in Danny's memory may be made to the Ohio Veterans Home, 2 North in Sandusky, Little Flower Catholic Church or Central Catholic High School.
