Dennis Studrawa, 80, of Fostoria, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at his residence. He was born August 9, 1933, in Chicago, IL to John and Rose (Scopec) Studrawa, both of whom precede him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Koppenhafer) Studrawa; children, Marcia (Mike) Carrell of Tiffin, Greg (Cindy) Studrawa of Baton Rouge, LA, Geoff (Marcia) Studrawa of Fostoria; step-children, Elizabeth (Andrey) Knourenko of Boston, Sarah (Tony) Whitman of Tiffin, Chris (Maribeth) Stahl of Nashville; grandchildren, Samantha Studrawa, Katelin Studrawa, Allison Studrawa, Lauren Strausbaugh, Hannah Whitman, Audrey Whitman, Ava Knourenko, Lea Knourenko, and Parker Stahl; sister, Faith (Bob) Laski of Chicago. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Much of his childhood was spent at Harrison Park across from his apartment. He played baseball and swam there and sometimes made up other names so that he could participate in more than one league. He was breast stroke champion of the city of Chicago two years. He graduated from Crane Technical High School in Chicago where he swam, played basketball, and football. He received a scholarship from Ara Parseghian to play football at Miami of Ohio, where he graduated in 1955. He later earned his Master's Degree from BGSU in 1976.

After college, he spent two years in the army serving in Germany. He was a recreation officer and division football coach and attended football clinics in West Berlin and other cities.

His first coaching job was in Eaton, Ohio. From there, he went to Fostoria in 1965, where he was a teacher, coach, athletic director, and administrator. He also coached at St. Wendelin and Hopewell Loudon. He was a wrestling official at the state and local level for many years. He was inducted into the Hancock Sports Hall of Fame.

He was a member of St. Wendelin Church. After retiring from Fostoria City Schools, Denny was Executive Director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Seneca County, and then Executive Director of Fostoria United Way. He was a member of the Fostoria Rotary Club. He loved to travel, and one of his favorite places was the Amalfi Coast of Italy. Denny loved to watch football, old war movies, and play golf. He became very interested in the history of the Civil War and was proud of traveling to eighteen battlefields. He was the President of the Johnston's Island Civil War Round Table which meets in Tiffin. He was a volunteer at the American Civil War Museum of Ohio in Tiffin. Denny was also on the Board of Early Childhood Development Center in Fostoria and on the Land Growth and Development Committee of Good Shepherd Home.

A visitation will be Friday, May 23, 2014, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Fountain Cemetery, where Military Honors will be performed by the United Veterans of Fostoria.
