Donald "DV" M. Vollmar, age 85, of Whitehouse, Ohio passed away at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek, Monday, July 29, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio to parents, Barbara F. (Kruez) and Charles J. Vollmar in 1928. He was a carpenter all his life. He was known for his excellent workmanship; his company, Don Vollmar Builder Inc., was highly sought after. He built custom homes, home additions and worked in residential and commercial construction for many throughout the area, such as Dudley's, Schmuckers, Toledo Animal Shelter, The Whitehouse Inn and Lockrey Manufacturing, to name a few. Don enjoyed his work and instilled a strong work ethic to all his children. Don was active in community affairs such as, Reynolds Corners JayCees, in which he received Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award,
Reynolds Corners Rotary Club, and Soap Box Derby.
During his career, Don mentored Weldon Paul, Jim Jones and Don Klingman into the skilled trades. He not only treated them as fellow tradesmen, but also considered them like sons. He took great pride in extending his personal experience and knowledge in knowing this would be carried on in these men. Don's hobbies were remote controlled model airplanes and model trains; he was a member of the Weak Signals Model Airplane Club. Most recently, Don enjoyed browsing at the Westfield Mall with his daughter, Deb and son-in-law, Rick.
Don is survived by his wife, Karen C. (Mather) Vollmar; children, Donald M. (Dorothy) Vollmar Jr. of Perrysburg, OH, Debra L. (Rick) Bryan, of Sylvania, OH, Dan M. (Shelley) Vollmar, of Temperance, MI, Darrell M. (Annie) Vollmar, of Houston, TX, Dean M. (Janine) Vollmar, of Temperance, MI, Diane L (Mike) Petrlich, of Monroe, MI, Doug S. Vollmar, of Toledo, OH and Dane M. (Beth) Vollmar of Toledo, OH; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles J. Vollmar Jr., Edward J. (Zita) Vollmar, Joe J. (Connie) Vollmar and Gerald W. (Pat) Vollmar; sisters, Theresa E. (Harley) Weide and Patricia J. (Bob) Evans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rita Mae Grayczyk and Bernadette J. Winhoven.
Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, Ohio. Visitation will be Thursday, August 1, 2013, from 2:00-8:00 p.m., where the funeral service will be held Friday, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the Whitehouse Fire and Rescue Team, staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care and support, and the Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek Nurses and staff for their kindness and support.
