Wow! Dot almost made it to 95 years.

Born May 5, 1919, in Fostoria to Lelia and Fred Grossmann II, Dorothy M. Bearss died Saturday, April 26th at the Parkcliffe Community where she had lived since last June.

She and her late husband, Jim, had made their home on Flint Drive in South Toledo, for 30 years and previously on Dorr St. near Byrne Road on the site of the former Bearss Landscape Nursery.

Dot was a 1937 graduate of Libbey High School and worked as a secretary at National Supply, before marrying Jim Bearss.

For 62 years they shared a beautiful life together focused on family, friends, fishing Lake Erie and following their sons outstanding football careers at DeVilbiss High School, the University of Colorado and The Ohio State University.

Alongside her husband, Jim (he died in April, 2001), she was the secretary and bookkeeper 35 years for Bearss Landscape Nursery. At Rogers National Research Co., Dot processed survey information from '62 through '72.

She was a life member and past president of the Child Conservation League. She avidly studied and practiced Yoga 12 years beginning in 1970. Dot was a member of the Art Study Group at the Toledo Art Museum. Reading was her favorite pastime.

Dot was a beloved member of the Angels Landing Spiritual Center.

Her quick wit, joyful spirit and wonderful sense of humor will be fondly remembered and missed.

Surviving are her children, Bill (Kathy) Bearss, Six Mile, SC, Jim (LaRee) Bearss, Monte Vista, CO and Bonnie (Joe) Coyle, Toledo. There are 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Fred W. Grossmann III; sister, Yvonne White, and grandson, James Bearss.

Friends may call at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road Friday 2-8 p.m. The funeral will begin in the mortuary Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment Toledo Memorial Park to follow.
