Earnold enlisted in the Army in 1953 and was proud to serve his country. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

Earnold was a devoted member of Phillips Temple CME Church and served in various leadership roles. Earnold also enjoyed ministering through song with the City Wide Male Chorus, the Southernaires and the Phillips Temple Mass Choir.
